Belajar /bel·a·jar / v. To study, learn, or obtain knowledge. It also carries a meaning of ‘practice,’ or ‘changing behavior based on feedback.’ Belajar comes from the root noun ajar which is ‘advice’ or a ‘teaching.’ The student or learner is called pelajar. Although, if it’s higher education, the student becomes a mahasiswa.

Guru /gu·ru/ n. A person whose job is to teach, a ‘teacher’ by profession.
guru sekolah : school teacher
guru kepala : headmaster
guru agama : religious teacher
guru suara : voice teacher
Dosen /do·sen/ n. Lecturer at a university.
dosen luar biasa : extraordinary lecturer
dosen tamu : guest lecturer
dosen terbang : (flying lecturer) lecturer who teach at several universities outside of the city and therefore must take an airplane regularly
Kelas /ke·las/ n. Class, as in classroom, or ‘grade level.’ It can also be a community group based on education or technical term for classification of like organisms, objects, or phenomena.
kelas matematika : math class
kelas dua : second-grade
kelas madya : middle class of society (based on income)
kelas berat ringan : light heavyweight class (of boxers)
kelas kata : classification of word types (noun, adjective, etc.)
